Want to go bigger? Then this is the year, or work smaller the choice is up to you. Spend time exploring some beautiful places around Warrnambool and near by Tower Hill Wildlife Reserve where you will gather your resource material and work in the studio on painting.  Be inspired to loosen up incorporating intuition along with a grounding in design principles that make paintings work. In 3 days, you will have the opportunity to create art that is meaningful to you. Shari says, every artist must find their authentic voice, this summer school will help you find your unique mark making and expression moving you forward. 

What you will do

  • Be taken out on field trips to local coastal areas and Tower Hill wildlife reserve, taking photos and sketching to gather inspiration.
  • Independent practice,  — choose your own subjects in the field and back in the studio

  • Discussions and demos by Shari on starting a painting, composition, and harmonious palette mixing . Shari who works with abstraction will demonstrate different techniques she uses. She also has been through formal art training in tonal realism and taught art for over 3 decades. 

  • Spend some time looking and learning  about different nature inspired artist's and look at their work via a presentation.

 

  • Feedback sessions — peer reviews facilitated by Shari designed to build confidence, skill and awareness.

  • The studio we work from is in a hall by the beautiful Hopkins River River

  • This summer school is for experienced artists wanting some focused time away and anyone ready to play and learn some new skills and get feedback.

DAY 1 Responding to nature sketches using charcoal, pastel & collage in the field trip and studio time. 

DAY 2  Morning in the field sketch session. Then in the studio focus on colour mixing , composition and design principles of art.   Work on artwork 

DAY 3  Work on artwork with feedback along the way

Provided:

  • A vegetarian lunch and morning tea provided
  • Guide to special places here in Warrnambool
  • Inspiring reference materials 
  • Acrylic mediums and surprise art materials 
  • Water jars, palettes if you don’t have one
  • PD certificate available for teachers 18 hrs on request

What to bring

BYO water bottle, apron/smock and lightweight folding stool if you have one for field work.

A  suggested materials list shall be emailed when you book in.
