Warrnambool School OF Art presents-
Mosaics with Pamela Irving
Date 30th & 31th March 2024 10am -4pm
Join Pamela Irving in a 2-day mosaic workshop.
In this workshop, you will be introduced the art of mosaic in various materials, including flat tiles (tesserae), antique china and found objects. You will learn how to cut materials, and mix and apply adhesives. Pamela will also introduce you to grouting, which fills the gaps between the tiles to bring your creations to life!
This workshop will be suited to both beginners and experienced practitioners. Each student will come away with a unique personal creation. It will be made on a ceramic tile substrate, which can be framed or adhered to a wall.
The basic mosaic materials and adhesives will be supplied, however please feel free to bring along materials you have collected or have a personal connection to. For example, old china that has sentimental value, a collection of rocks you found on a trip, or a collection of beach glass. Your materials could include discarded ceramics (broken cups, jugs, plates, figurines), glass tiles, smalti, marble, jewellery, gumnuts, small toys, etc.
While you will be working on a ceramic based backing board, that does not mean that your work has to be flat - let your creativity run wild! You will be encouraged to experiment with the materials and cutting techniques.
The day will begin with Pamela showing you examples of her varied practice from public art to exhibition pieces, as well as examples of ancient and contemporary world mosaics.
This workshop is designed to inspire curiosity about this ancient art form and experimentation with unique materials.
